My Daughter & SO relationship

For anyone who has a child and/or children how important is it to you that your SO has a relationship/bond with your little one(s). I’ve been with my SO for a whole year and he’s only been around my daughter twice. It’s pushing me away from him. I don’t ask for much just that he makes some effort to have some relationship with her. She’s 4 yrs old and loves this man, from those two days of going out she wants nothing to do with me and is just so in awe of him.

I’m so confused, he comes around for family events but it’s a mission just for it to be us three. How can I be so in love with someone who won’t make effort to be with my daughter?

Am I asking for too much?
