How bad is this?

So I arrive to pick up my 6 month old from the babysitter to find him with this:

The sitter wasn’t quite sure how it happened, said it was either another child (14 months) or the dog while she had the kids on the floor for diaper changes. This is the second injury. The first was from another kid accidentally kicking him in the face:

I know things happen and kids get hurt. Don’t want to overreact, but don’t want to underreact either.

I wouldn’t send mine back there. She should be paying enough attention to know what’s what.

I wouldn’t be sending my son back. Things do happen but she doesn’t even know what happened. 
I would say that it was the dog though and the fact she didn’t pay close enough attention to her animal around a baby is NOT okay and totally scary. Even the best of animals can turn and should not be left unattended.

Woah red flags mama. I run a daycare and my 6 month old has never gotten hurt. I keep my pets separate from all kids and I keep my baby with me or safely removed from the other children while doing diaper changes / prepping food / etc. I have a set of brothers - one bit the other once while I was changing another child - it happened as I was stepping over a gate and I watched it! I immediately removed the child who bit from the play area to think about what had happened and tended to the brother. I took a photo and sent it to Mom with my concern and the severity of having a biter at daycare. I was very upset and disappointed in the childs behavior and my protocol is to be transparent. I knew what happened, I communicated immediately, and I handled the situation. There’s no reason for a child care professional not to know what happened - especially to an infant that young. I’d be finding another daycare immediately. Older kids get hurt falling or making not good choices - but they’re older and able to defend themselves. Tiny infants have no means of defending themselves and shouldn’t be left with any animal unattended. Not even for a second!

A scratch like that is likely to make a baby cry, which means she should’ve been there to assess the situation. She should be able to tell you what happened. She also should not leave a baby alone with a dog. You wouldn’t be overreacting by not sending him back. Your baby isn’t old enough to tell you what happened, so better safe than sorry!
