Can a “Homer” overcome the Simpsons connection?

Question

I LOVE the name Homer, I love the poet association, but even more so it makes me think of Homer Wells from Cider House Rules, who is one of my very favorite male protagonists in literature 😍
So far those I’ve asked can’t get over Homer Simpson... I point out that Homer’s creator has both a father named Homer, and a son named Homer and clearly doesn’t associate the name with something negative... to little avail. :/ 
The Simpsons is what? 30 years old already? How big a deal could this possibly be for a kid born in 2018? 
If it helps, middle name would be either Alfred (giving him Alfie as a viable nickname), or Seymour (which I don’t like as much as Alfred)

I’d say The Simpsons is still a pretty much big deal as what it was 30 years ago. 🤷🏼‍♀️
It’s still on every evening and you try and find a kid who doesn’t know what it is!

I guess I just fundamentally don’t CARE if Homer Simpson has the same name 🤷🏻‍♀️ I feel like pretty obviously nobody is naming a baby *after* him. There are very few names I feel are off limits based on a single association (Adolf, I’m looking at you!) 
And while I’m against naming a baby *after* a pop culture reference (Hermione, anyone?) its nearly impossible to avoid every name that appears in a show or movie these days. 
It’s not the only name on my list, but I love Homer Wells enough that I don’t feel good disregarding the name because of a yellow suburban dad.

I don’t think it’s a big deal. Adults might have that connection but kids his age aren’t really going to have the same connection to it. My husband has family with the last name Simpson and I almost never made the connection.

I think at first people will associate his name with the Simpsons... but as they get to know him it'll become more your son's name instead of another's.

im literally watching the simpsons rn, and on much music for example they play a marathon daily, so its common. im also 16. i love love love that name as well however it does remind me of Homer simpson😂

I believe they are still making new episodes. But who cares. If you like it name your kid that. Its different which I like. I hate popular names
