Our labor story- not what we expected at all!

Tj

I always loved reading these! Our story is long but ends well. Baby boy was stubborn. Had a membrane sweep at 39 weeks and it did nothing. Walked, yoga ball, sex all the time, still nothing. Morning of 40+2 I go in for another sweep. About twenty minutes after leaving I have my first contraction- hadn’t had anything beyond some mild cramps randomly until this point. Contractions started coming more frequently but irregularly as I went home. Lost my plug about 2 hours later. Contractions kept coming harder and stronger. About 7 hours after our sweep my contractions were about 5/6 minutes apart and killer. We go in and they decide to admit me because I was over due and the babies heart rate was a little low. (Its currently Monday night at like 9 pm). They come in to do my epidural. Apparently I have a bony back because it took four tries to place. 😭 it didn’t hurt after the shots initially, just hard to sit through as I’m contracting. Once done, I’m given a bit of pitocin- I manage to sleep, and by 5 I am dilated to an 7, they break my water. Come back at 6 am and I’m dilated to a nine. They want me to try and let my body continue to push baby down but his heart rate is dropping. By 8 we decide to push. My epidural isn’t as strong and my back is incredibly sore from the shots. I try and push and push but I can feel myself getting sick and start throwing up between contractions and needing oxygen. Eventually his head is seen, but he won’t come out. I looked up and it’s 10:00 am. I’d been pushing for almost three hours when we decided that is wasn’t going to happen. We decided a c section was the safest.

After the csection I learned that baby wouldn’t come out because 1) he has flipped sunny side up last minute, 2) had gained weight and came out at 8.5 lbs. And 3) he had an actual knot in his cord that was causing the dips in his heart rate. For us, c section was an amazing option to keep us both safe and happy. Labor wasn’t what I expected but it was all okay in the end :)

So happy my little guy is here, and safe! Born at 11:49 in June 12th, 21 inches long and 8.5 lbs.
