Doctor vs. Midwife

My mother in law is a family doctor & somewhat freaked out today when I told her that I’m seeing a midwife. She then proceeded to tell me a horror story about someone she knew who saw a midwife & something bad that happened because of a decision the midwife made. She wants to call the office tomorrow & see if I can change to a doctor. I know it’s totally up to me and my husband, but I wanted to see if any of you had any knowledge or experience about the difference between the two. Thanks for your help!
