Does overthinking and ruminating ever make you want to take sleeping pills or knock yourself out so you can stop thinking and just relax for awhile?

Sometimes when I embarrass myself I'll think about it over and over until I hate myself for whatever I did. And I can never stop the thoughts without a distraction. But even then, I'll remember. Lately I've been wishing I could just shut off my brain, or just dream for awhile instead of constant worry, embarrassment, or shame.
