Did any of you guys learn another language as an adult?

Question

I am really trying to learn a second language. I carry around a translator dictionary with me all the time so I can continually practice words and learn new ones. I use practice apps and I try to practice speaking it but no one in my family speaks anything but English and same with my friends. 
Any advice for someone who is learning?

Duolingo works really well. Also maybe taking a trip to fully immerse yourself in the language should help, I went to Spain while trying to learn Spanish and started picking it up pretty quickly.

Have you tried to find tutors in your desired language either in person or online?
I've dabbled in Slovene, Croatian, Gaelic, Japanese, and ASL in my adult years. I know it helps so much to have a practice buddy, especially with the uncommon languages.
