Extra vitamins??

Anyone have to take anything extra besides their prenatal for twins??

Frederick R. Klenner, M.D. gave large doses of ascorbic acid to over 300 pregnant women and reported virtually no complications in 
any of the pregnancies or deliveries (Irwin Stone, The Healing Factor, Chapter 28). Indeed, the hospital nurses around Reidsville, N.C. noted that the infants who were healthiest and happiest were the "Vitamin C 
babies." Other physicians have similarly reported that they have observed a complete absence of birth defects in babies born to 
vitamin-C taking mothers-to-be. 
Specifically, Dr. Klenner gave: 
(1) 4,000 mg each day during the first trimester (first three months of pregnancy) 
(2) 6,000 mg each day during the second trimester 
(3) 10,000 mg each day during the third trimester 
Some women got 15,000 mg daily during the third trimester.
Results? There were NO miscarriages in this entire group of 300 women. Klenner gave "booster" injections of vitamin C to 80% of the women upon admission to the hospital for childbirth. The results? Wonderful, indeed:
First, labor was shorter and less painful. (My children's mother, with her 2:45 and 1:45 labor times, can confirm this.)Second, stretch marks were seldom to be seen.Third, there were NO postpartum hemorrhages at all. And, there were no toxic manifestations and no cardiac distress (Stone, p. 191).Among Klenner's patients were the Fultz quadruplets, which at the time were the only quads in the southeastern U.S. to have survived. 
These were each given 50 mg of "C" daily at birth.This is an important point: if the Mom is taking vitamin C, it also has to be continued for BOTH mother and baby afterwards as well. Failure to do this will result in the well-publicized "rebound effect." Therefore, don't stop a good thing. If "C" is important enough for the woman to take before giving birth, then it is important enough for the baby to get AFTER it has been born.
Klenner had children take their age in vitamin C each day. That is, a gram (1,000 milligrams) of "C" per year of age, leveling off at the age of 10

Rebound scurvy 
This is a more recent lecture by Humpries. At around 59:00, she mentions a study done on several animal types during pregnancy at high doses of vitamin with no adverse effects in animals or offspring and no notation of any "rebound" effect. It is a good lecture on C in pregnancy in general as well, with lots of source citations.

There is no indication that rebound scurvy is real. There is no scientific literature. It is just an idea. I for one have never seen it or experienced it. I was taking 15 grams during pregnancy and my baby was not born with rebound scurvy but opposite. Insanely healthy, zero jaundice, strong body and lungs. I did not supplement her other than nursing. I nursed my son when he was 1.5-2 i was taking 40-100 grams of vitamin c at that time. His health improved with mine. I had to stop breastfeeding abruptly and he did not experience rebound scurvy. I was not supplementing him with vitamin c at that time. All humans that do not megadose vitamin c are in a state of scurvy because our world is so toxic. There is no way to not have scurvy with the amount of electrons we use up. So in a sense, stopping vitamin c megadose will cause scurvy which is the exact health situation we are all in before starting vitamin c megadose. -Katie

This report here makes a good point about phytates and tannins and how they block iron absorption. This means beans and red wine. More of a concern for adults obviously, but if your baby can eat solids don't give him legumes as that will hinder iron absorption. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2507689

Thus, ascorbic acid supplementation is effective.We believe that ascorbic acid supplementation improved steroidogenesis in our study, although it is not known whether this occurred via antioxidant effects. Ascorbic acid supplementation may not cause improvement in some patients with luteal phase defect because this condition may have many causes. However, ascorbic acid supplementation should be tried in these patients, as it is clearly effective for some cases of luteal phase defect, is cost-beneficial, and does not have side effects."
