Weight problem advice????

Question

So my son is turning 11 months on the 2nd and the doctor tells us all the time he needs to gain weight but he snacks all the time on baby puffs and Cheetos and we feed him atleast 3 big jars of baby food a day. I put rice in his bottles and everything and he still doesn’t seem to want to gain any weight. He only weighed 6 pounds when he was born. And weighs maybe 17 now. Any suggestions????

all those things you mentioned you give him have no nutritional value, that could be why. try less puffs and rice and add something substantial. I know your dr said no other foods but I think at 11 months he can eat what you're eating. I've never asked my pedi advice on what to give my son lol but everyone is different, just giving feedback, please dont offended!

I would think 17 isnt that far off  in weight?  Have you tried making your own baby food? I try and give about 6+ oz of food each meal, wether it be baby food or formula.

My daughter is 17 lb and my dr has never said anything about feeding her more. She follows her growth curve and is just a tiny baby. Some babies are smaller than others. I’m glad to see you’re going to a new doctor. That one doesn’t seem very informed about nutrition.

We just had an apt last Friday. He was 6#10oz at birth and is 18# 15oz now. Dr said as long as he’s gaining we’re good. He eats whatever we eat. Drinks 4-5 6-8 oz bottles a day. Has one sippy cup of diluted juice and snacks all day long. He’s so active he burns it all off.

I've read babies around their age need 700-900 calories per day, so aim for that. Puffs, at least the ones we have, have almost no calories. I think it's something like 30 calories for 1/2 cup of the puffs we give. I just give them for fun to help my daughter forget about eating paper 😂 I honestly would hardly consider those as weight gain assistants. 
If you're breastfeeding, you could try supplementing with formula. 
But in all honesty, as long as your son has a pattern of consistent weight gain, 17 lb is fine. My daughter was 7lb13oz at birth and is just over 18lb now and her Dr has only good things to say. She's EBF and I was worried he'd suggest at her 9 month check-up that we start supplementing with formula but he didn't make a peep about it.

My little one is the same size. He loves full fat cottage cheese and yogurt. My doc recommend mixing a little coconut oil into his food to up the calories.

I dont think the weight is far off. My son is 10.5  months and a little over 19 pounds. I would definitely start giving more table foods, mine skipped over baby food, he had no interest. We were told at his 6 month appointment to offer him food and that it was fine if it wasn't puree. It took him a bit to get over the gag reflux but now he munches down. He has formula still, usually 4 to 5 bottles a day but they vary in size. Some 7 oz some 4oz. He's offered all meals and snacks. I would say if your lo is healthy in all other regards weight should be okay. He's active I'm sure and burns a lot off from what he does eat.

yeah it sounds like you just giving him a lot of easy food. Move them to our food and baby food substitute the Puffs and Cheetos for the veggie straws my son loves them. And you give him Meats right? oatmeal's are great starter for our food

Try something hardier than baby jar food that’s more for texture than nutritional value. Give him oatmeal in the morning and before bed. How many oz of milk is he drinking a day?

I would maybe try more food, than just baby food. How about yogurt? I buy these baby yogurts that my son loves!!
