Missed 1 year dr apt— anyone else go only when necessary?

We missed my son’s one year old dr apt. My mom says he’s perfectly healthy so why go take him to a place around sick kids? Do I need to make an appointment for no reason? He stays at home with me, no daycare.

I would take him. Doesn’t he need his vaccines? And doctor should check on his growth, milestones, etc.

Yes. Some doctors will report you to CPS for medical neglect if you don’t go. It’s important for several reasons but the few that come to mind are: shots, making sure they’re meeting their milestones, they test for lead and iron, and making sure development looks good.  We all want the best for our children. Taking them to the doctor for regular check ups is what we can do to ensure that our children are healthy and developing properly.

What everyone else said plus - did your child get a blood draw at 9 months?  There is an iron check at 9 months or 1 year.  If you didn’t get it done at 9 months, it should be done.  Iron deficiency is no joke.
Besides vaccines, you get the head, height and weight measurements done.  Those measurements aren’t done for bragging rights. If your child starts jumping around percentile wise, it can be indicative of an issue.  We had a weight drop and that info was used as justification for ear tube surgery (he had ear infections, but they might have waited longer for surgery if he was growing).  Head measurements caught my friend’s son’s hydrocephaly.

Yes, babies and children need to be taken to regular doctor appointments. You can actually be reported to DCFS for not providing proper and regular medical care for your children, and in many states that’s grounds to have them removed.

Well baby visits are very important for all the reasons everyone has stated. My 2.5yr old and 1.5yrs old have been to every one of their well baby visits and never gotten sick when they went.
