What does Tricare cover for pregnant women?

I went to the OB Orientation at my base today and they said that gender ultrasounds aren’t covered but what I’m wondering is how many/which ultrasounds does Tricare cover? My husband and I have Tricare Prime and we are seeing a civilian OB since our base doesn’t have a hospital or women’s health provider.

Anything medically necessary is covered under tricares global maternity. You can have 1 or 900 ultrasounds/tests/labs/appointments as long as they aren’t elective, it’s covered.

I just talked with tricare yesterday about this! They told me it’s all how your doctor/billing codes are set up. They will pay for everything as long as the primary billing code is “routine”. I had prime then went to select because it was wayyyy easier getting a civilian doctor. Hope this helps :)

Tricare select here and last pregnancy I got 3. Dating and anatomy and growth.
This pregnancy is all goes well I’ll just receive dating and anatomy. 
Ultrasounds are also covered for vaginal bleeding and things of that nature.

Unless you’re high risk, you get two. One to determine the due date, and then the Anatomy Scan which is between 20 and 22 weeks.

I have had one pregnancy on tricare prime and seen a civilian doctor due to the base not having a hospital and this current pregnancy is tricare select..the first I paid $0 and I had a totally normal pregnancy until my delivery and I think I had 6 ultrasounds. And tricare paid for it all. Including an emergency c-section and 4 days of hospital stay. This pregnancy which is also totally normal. I have had 5 ultrasounds and have paid maybe $300. But everything including my repeat c-section will be paid for.

This all depends how your doctor codes it and sends it to Tricare!! I was on prime seen in town and they new I was worried so they did an ultra sound almost at every visit! Also at the anatomy scan is where they can tell you what you're having if they're not going to do extra ultra sounds

Im on standard/select. I’ve had a zero complication, textbook perfect pregnancy and I’ve had 5 ultrasounds at weeks 7, 11, 19, 27, and 35. There’s only one obgyn in town so I didn’t get to pick where I went. However I have NEVER paid a single copay or bill for ANY doctor I went to and we talked to the hospital this past weekend and we won’t be paying a hospital bill either since it’s the only civilian hospital with in an 1.5 hour drive.

My mom was on tricare with her most recent baby and I remember a dating scan and then an anatomy ultrasound, where she was able to find out the gender. She also had a 3D u/s done but I can’t remember if she paid out of pocket.

I said depends in you doctor because when I was in Florida I have like 6 ultrasound and I not risk if you doctor send you to do a ultrasound the insurance supposed to cover I also have prime.
