Pediatric Dentist - When to go?

Question

When did you first take your LO to the dentist?  I’ve heard anywhere from ‘first tooth = first appointment’ to ‘18 months or 8 teeth’.

I think the official recommendation is 1, but they don’t actually get a teeth cleaning until 3. I took my son when he turned 2 and they counted his teeth and showed him around the office. It was a great introductory visit. He won’t go again until he turns 3.
I didn’t think it was necessary to go earlier, but my son never went to bed with a bottle, doesn’t drink juice, rarely eats sugary snacks, and brushes regularly. If you have concerns like holding the bottle in the mouth a long time or excessive thumb sucking etc., it might make sense to go earlier.

My son started going at three. The dentist said that as long as the pediatrician keeps an eye on teeth, they’re getting brushed, and nothing is wrong that’s fine.

I'm probably going to wait until my kids are 3 or 4. 
It'll just be easier, I can explain what's going to happen, and that it's not scary, and they'll know to sit still when told.
my daughter is two, and needed to get glasses. this age they are too big to just do whatever, but too little to understand that it's ok, and to sit still. It was kind of a fight with her.

Our daughter is going for the first time next week! She'll be 13 months and has about 15 teeth lol prior to a year, there's no real need. Once they turn one, then it's important to get into good dental habits. We brush our daughters teeth with fluoride free toothpaste, every day, twice a day and prior to that, we cleaned them with a damp cloth. Once your little one is one, I'd start looking for a pediatric dentist in your area. You definitely shouldn't be waiting until they're 2+ years old. Babies CAN get cavities even if you're brushing them every day. They're more likely to get them than we are as adults.

I took my son when he turned one. But I did it because I thought he had a lip tie that his pediatricians kept missing (I was right). He does so good. He just went for his 2 year check up and did amazing, just sat and let the dentist do his thing.
