Help guy trouble

I’ve been talking to a guy for a few days . He got my number because he said I was cute . He seems super sweet . We only hung out once but it was nice talking to him. He’s the first to text me everyday and at night when he gets off of work. The thing is he is a terrible texter. He responds all the time but sometimes he takes forever to do it. The sweet thing about him is that if he knows he took forever to respond he will text me saying sorry and justify himself. He does not get personal in the conversation. He works with my friend and they talked about his ex .Idk what happened with them but it ended pretty bad. He asked me questions about my ex’s which I gladly answered, when I asked him about his he kinda dodged the question. Point is , if he really finds me interesting wouldn’t he ask me out? Or is it that he’s still healing over a girl I don’t even know about and he needs time ? I really want to hang out with him but idk what the hell to do.
