Non-Hormonal BC

I've been looking into birth control options for a while now, but I'm nervous to take the plunge on anything because my body does NOT react very well to hormone dosages. I thought about getting the Paraguard IUD but everyone I have talked to hates it and says it was awful and painful. I know I have options like sponges or diaphrams but frankly, those don't look like they have a lot of protection.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Any mild hormone options?
