Is just a condom enough?

Need some birth control advice - I’ve never had sex but I want to with my boyfriend and def don’t want to get pregnant. I’ve never been on birth control and don’t really want to start, but is just using a condom safe enough?

condoms arent 100% and there is a small amount of risk with proper use. thats good enough for some people but not for others. it depends on how much risk you are willing to accept and how careful you and your partner are and how much you trust your partner. if you arent comfortable with that amount of risk, you could also do pull out or spermicide along with the condoms. using 2 compatible methods of contraception increase your protection. condoms can break or slip so you have to decide for yourself how much you trust the science, the product, and you and your partner's responsibility. you should always discuss the possibility of contraception failure and what you guys should do at each step. personally i trust condoms and i know what im doing in case it fails. however i cant make that decision for anyone else. its not my body and not my risk

Yes, when condoms are used properly from start to finish, they’re 98% effective. That being said, it is possible for condoms to break, so if ur wanting even more protection then adding another method in addition to the condoms is a good idea. If u would prefer not to use hormonal methods, then u could look into the Paragard IUD or other barrier methods like a diaphragm/cervical cap, cervical sponges, or spermicides.
