Pumping already? Need relief!

Question

Just came home yesterday with my second. My milk has come in like crazy but little man is just too tiny and not quite eating as much as i have. I’m starting to get engorged-can/should i pump to help relieve?? I don’t want my body to think i should be making that much just but need relief!

I didn't pump at all with mine. I didn't want to mess up my supply so I was too worried to pump and am a SAHM so I didn't need to. When I was engorged I hand expressed a little or took a shower to relieve it but pumping will tell you body to keep making more milk. So if you want your supply to slow down to only what he's eating, don't pump. If you want to make extra to have a frozen stash, start pumping.

i pumped shortly after too for the same reason..now is a good time if u plan on being able to bottle feed too to start a stock pile for the freezer is what i was told cause there may be a day where u cant give ur lo enough so u got extra..mind u i dont have a problem but id rather be safe than sorry when it comes to breast milk for my lo

I pumped when my milk came in to relieve the pain. I didn’t pump everyday since I was on maternity leave, I breastfed my baby. But I did introduce her to the bottle when she was a few weeks old. I mainly breastfed her and occasionally my husband would give her a bottle. She’s now 6 months old and has never had formula. She drinks out of the bottle while I’m away from home and breastfeeds when I am with her. You need to find what works best for you.

I was exclusively pumping from the get go and I had a tiny over supply, like 5oz extra a day and I actually think that’s normal because I was able to build a freezer stash that way. Pump and get some relief mama!

Pumping will encourage your body to make more milk, and so is good if you want to start a stash.
If you are just wanting relief, don’t pump.  You can hand express a little to get relief, or you can jump in the shower and gently massage, from the outside of the breast towards the nipple.
(Advice given to me by my midwife).

Pump for sure babies appetites increase sometimes very quick you may need that extra milk soon anything you pump save for emergency’s you never know if you don’t plan on using bottles you could if you wanted to donate it to the hospital for the nicu babies or for babies who’s mothers can’t breast feed (only a suggestion) 😁 congrats on your new born 😁
