I feel heartbroken 😞

The guy I was seeing was being a bit off because his ex is acting up saying she wants to get back with him but he wants nothing to do with her. It’s been making me feel a bit uncomfortable so asked him straight out if he’s ready for a relationship with me or not..he said he isn’t sure he’s ready just yet so I suggested we can be friends and see what happens In the future and he agreed...I feel heartbroken because I really like him a lot. Did I do the right thing?😒
