birth plan?

are y'all planning to do a birth plan? if you don't know what this is, it's a printed copy of your birthing preferences -- everything from whether you would prefer an epidural to do you want the lights dimmed lol. you give this to your nurses so they know what you'd like ahead of time (assuming things go somewhat according to plan). i'm trying to start one, but feeling a bit overwhelmed. going to chat with my doctor about it at our next appointment, but wanted to get some feedback from you ladies in the meantime :)

Nope!  It’s safe to assume things may not go according to planned.  Best to just be open minded.

I work in a hospital and see a lot of mothers come in with a “birth plan” and nothing goes as plan. I definitely have preferences of how i want the birthing process to go, but am also realistic in knowing that everything I would like to happen could not happen.

No I’m more of a go with the flow. I wasn’t overwhelmed the first time where I couldn’t communicate what I wanted or needed. I stayed home for the first 8 hours of my 14 hour labor which is what I wanted to do, by the time I got to the hospital I was at 5 cm...they gave me a bed hooked me up to all the monitors asked me if I wanted an epi. By the time I got the epi I was at 7 cm and about 3 hours later I asked if I could push because I wanted to eat lol. I did explicitly tell the doctor I did not want to be cut or have forceps used on my baby’s head.  Hopefully I’ll stay home for most of my labor this time too so I don’t have to worry about dim lights or whatever other hospital annoyances. I wouldn’t put too much stock on the nurses taking your plan and reading through your wish list honestly, I’m sure they’ll ask you whatever questions and be accommodating to your wishes but it’s not like you’re the only patient or they’re gonna have a suite ready with only blue m&ms; awaiting you lol.

I have a printed template, someone else made and does for free.  it has helped because I just check off what we want/expect.

I made a birth plan and my hospital had no idea what to do with it. The registration office ladies didn’t even know what a birth plan was.... They scanned it into their system, but I’m not sure they are ever going to refer to it. I kind of feel like I wasted my time.

I had one with my first (having my third in September) nothing went to plan at all. I have to have c sections because I have huge kids and an abnormally small pelvis. They figured that out after 22hrs of labour..
