Monitoring sock for babies. Is it necessary?

I’m panicked over this because my friend was. She wasn’t going to get one but had the baby and felt she wanted it. Before I spend $300 on it, please tell me what you think.

Although not necessary, it does help with detecting a problem with your babies health. When I do have a baby or babies, I plan on getting them one. It just puts my mind at ease to know I can monitor my baby's health with it.

we are absolutely getting one (the owlett).  for my peace of mind and just an extra layer of precaution.  $300 is nothing compared to my baby's life.

I got this when my first was born and that helped me have peace of mind that he was ok. at the time I found it on groupon for like $30.

I am in the process of getting my insurance to cover the cost of an in home monitor. For my own sanity it is necessary for me. I lost my sister to SIDS as a young girl and going through that experience has changed my views and opinions on the necessity of such a device. My husband is also deployed and will not be home until our baby girl is 3 months old. So any extra piece of mind is worth whatever the cost is, but like I said my insurance will cover it if the doctor recommends it, but even if I cannot get it approved I will be buying one.

Millions of babies were born and fine without it. I think it’s a waste. I’d rather save the $300 for maybe something baby will need in the future.

I was dead set on getting one before my daughter was born, but once she arrived I didn't see the need. She stayed in my room until 12 weeks and then I had the video monitor. when they're little, they move a lot in their sleep, so usually when I worried, I'd just watch the monitor for movement, or go in and check on her. For me, it mattered before she was born, but that changed after she was here.

I considered it but ended up not getting one. My son slept in our room for the first six weeks and that helped me get used to him sleeping in his own space but was right there so I could hear and see him. Then we moved him to his room and use a monitor with video. I would constantly wake up the first few weeks and He woke up every few hrs anyway so I felt ok with tht. If he slept longer I’d go check on him. He’s currently 6mo and sleeping longer stretches/through the night sometimes. If I’m concerned I just check tht he’s breathing. But I know people who have them and love them and it makes them feel more comfortable. Maybe wait and see how you feel once baby is here. You may decide you’d prefer one or tht you don’t.
