visiting my military boyfriend, but how?

i live in new york while my boyfriend lives in another state, stationed at an air force base. 
when upon visiting him, is there any sort of restrictions upon visitors on base, could i stay on base in the meantime or would i have to stay at a hotel nearby off base? i plan on visiting and staying for about a week and then leaving back to NY. 
(he’s going to be stationed overseas soon to okinawa at kadena, if that helps with info). 
i apologize, i’m extremely new to this. but i’m really willing to understand.

If he’s taking leave, stay in a hotel on base as they’re usually cheaper if he’s going to work while you’re there stay in a hotel off base because if you don’t have base access you’re
not supposed to be unescorted while on base

I was stationed in Oki a couple years ago, you’ll be able to visit him there too if you get a passport. 
Most bases you need a visitors pass and the active duty member to escort you on. I would just book a hotel nearby to make your guys lives easier and so you have privacy if he lives in the barracks.

There was a few times I stayed in his barracks with him. (I wouldn’t do this, because he may get in trouble 🙊) But if he was on leave we stayed in the hotel on base.

I actually stayed in the barracks 👀🙄 🤫only the first night bc my flight landed super late and the last day of my trip to save money. His roommate just bunked downstairs. But the hotel I did choose was nearby.
