Steak - Rare?

Question

Is eating steak with a little pink/red an absolute no-no? I love eating steak, but not well done. Thoughts?

Steaks cooked medium well with a little pink is fine. Even medium is ok. Just make sure you trust who is cooking it or if you are then temp it to make sure it’s safe

I’ve ordered mine medium rare my ENTIRE pregnancy, my doctors don’t care what I eat. I refuse to have a good steak cooked to shoe leather 🤷🏼‍♀️

It’s no riskier than eating it while you are not pregnant, it’s just that if you get sick from undercooked meat it’s more dangerous for pregnant women. You don’t become *more* likely to get sick from undercooked meat just because you’re pregnant. 
So, it’s really about how you approach risk/benefit. Personally, I’ve eaten medium rare steak my entire pregnancy. If I have to eat well done steak I might as well eat some damn chicken.

I ate my steaks medium my entire pregnancy and even my OB said it was fine. The idea is to cook the outside and bring the internal temp up enough for the potential bacteria to die off. A medium steak is fine.

I love steak too and medium rare at that! This was the only thing my doc was a stickler with and she said no less then medium well. So I haven’t eaten steak too much!

My husband always cooks our steak to around 150 degrees and that’s still fairly pink in the middle. Supposedly all the bacteria is killed around 140-145 degrees for steak. For ground beef, however, it needs to be cooked all the way with absolutely no pink. Ecoli lives on the surface of steak since it comes from the feces, so ground beef is always more dangerous. Technically, whole steak is much safer because practically nothing lives inside of the meat (muscle) itself. I ate pink steak often when I was pregnant only because my husband loves it so much (I never craved it), and never had any issues.
Also, if you’re craving raw steak you may want to double check your iron intake. Most prenatals have iron in them, but the problem is they also usually contain calcium, which counteracts the iron by inhibiting the absorption of it. Calcium should be taken separately around 2 hours after you take your iron.
