Weaning when baby has "nurse to sleep" association?

Haley

I'm going to have to begin weaning my 8 month old from the breast for various reasons. I hoped to go to 12 months but I don't really have a choice. However, he has a "nurse to sleep" association and hardly ever falls asleep unless he's nursing (only other time is when he's in his swing) so I'm afraid that weaning to bottles will wreak havoc on his sleep. We bedshare and are currently in the process of transitioning to a Montessori bed (I plan to have him fully transitioned before I stop BF because I follow the LLL Sleep Safe Seven). How can we get past this? Anyone been in a similar situation?
