I had a midwife at the hospital. She was lovely. 10/10 would recommend and you have the hospital there as a safety net

I go to an office that has 1 obgyn and 6 midwives. I love it! Went to them with both of my pregnancies and plan to go with the third as well. They make sure you rotate midwives during your appointments so you are familiar with all of them and vice versa. Excellent experience.

I had a textbook birth with a midwife at a birthing center. I would do it again. But I also had a doula and I think that is important.

So I should start out by saying I miscarried and am pregnant again now and will not be going with the same midwife (and maybe not a midwife).
I had this idea that a midwife would be PERFECT for me, I’m somewhat hippie crunchy and wanted to keep things as natural as possible throughout my pregnancy.  I was assigned a midwife which I thought was perfect, and to be honest I didn’t have major issues with her until I miscarried.  It was then I learned she hadn’t read any of the reports on my scans because and I quote “midwives aren’t trained to do that”. And when she was telling me my concerns were unfounded, I had a 3” mass in my uterus that she never read the radiologist reports to know.  After my miscarriage, she was pushing me extremely hard to have surgery on the fibroid, which would prevent us from TTC for a year and likely cause complications getting pregnant.   
Luckily I met an awesome ob during everything who helped us keep things in perspective and advocated for waiting on surgery as I could have a healthy pregnancy with the fibroid. 
Long story short, I’m sure there are amazing midwives out there.  Personally the only way I’d do it again is to tag team my care (midwife and doctor) to ensure if things get complicated I’d have full support.  I think it all comes down to having a good relationship with whoever you go with, and making sure you feel heard.
