Age gap in relationship?

I’m involved with a 41 year old guy. He’s a good guy but I’m really struggling with the age gap. I’m 23. He really likes me and wants to be with me, he doesn’t care about the age gap. I just keep thinking about implications down the road, like being 45-50 and raising teenagers while taking care of a husband with Alzheimer’s. Or cancer since he smokes. He’s be like upper 60’s when our first kid graduates high school! And what about my friends? Is he gonna enjoy doing things that me and my friends do at my age? Or is he gonna break a hip lol. HELP ME.

I bet he doesn’t care about the age gap - there’s no disadvantage for him! I would not be able to be in a relationship with more than a 10 year gap. You two must be at completely different stages of your lives. It might work for some people but it sounds like it won’t for you if you’re already questioning it.

I understand what you mean! I love my guy and see my life with him but sometimes he’s beat up and exhausted with work and the day-to-day stuff and I’m like damn is this old mother fucker going to have enough energy for a baby one day?!

If all of that is a concern for you, definitely don’t get into anything with him. Just because he wants you doesn’t mean you have to like him in that way.

Age gap relationships can work but it’s good that you’re looking at all of these things now. If any of them seem like deal breakers for you then yeah, maybe don’t get married and have kids with this person. There’s nothing wrong with just dating and enjoying each other’s company. But also if you really love him and want to have a family and stuff that’s okay too as long as you are okay with what implications that has. No one can tell you what you should do because it’s really up to you what you think you can or can’t handle. 
That said, as someone in a relationship with a decent age gap (11 years) I don’t think I would do those things with someone /that/ much older than me because of what it would mean in the future.

My husband is 49, I'm 22 and when we first met I was nervous as hell, never been with an older man before.. But I gave it a chance because I admired everything about him and that was the best decision I ever made! We're so in love it's ridiculous lol I've never shared this kind of  intimacy with anybody else and I can't imagine my life without him. I should also mention we're expecting a little one in December, he's excited to do the whole daddy thing all over again, as he has 2 grown kids already. It sounds like you're going through some of the same feelings I went through in the beginning but if he treats you well, I say go for it. If it doesn't work out, well at least you tried!

Well my Dad was 45 when I had my daughter at 23. So yeah, it sounds odd to me. My Dad was a grandfather at 45.

I know two different couples with big age gaps that divorced after many years because when he was old enough and retired she got mad because she still had to work and resented him and the fact he had free time. Plus health stuff was going wrong with one and she didn’t want to be a caretaker. It’s something to think about. Don’t jump into something serious if you are not prepared for your concerns.

Honestly, I wouldn’t consider anything long term if I were you. He doesn’t seem to be living a healthy lifestyle and you will be the one that would have to take care of him in a few short years. I’m in an age gap relationship too. I’m 22 and he’s 47, and I think about those possibilities too. I know he doesn’t smoke and he’s not a heavy drinker and he likes to stay active in the gym, but even still there is no guarantee he will still be healthy in his 60s and 70s.
