If it's cool with the bride and the groom why not? Everyone automatically assumes it's rude... I'm 99% sure these people ask the bride at least if that's okay.

Even if the couple were ok with it - think about it. Their family and closest friends are there to celebrate their day - and then along comes someone who is stealing some of that thunder. It’s about that couple and that couple only on their wedding day, and some people may feel they can’t say no when in fact they want to 
Also personally- I’d feel that the moment became very pressure filled because of where it is to say yes. Not to mention the story of my engagement would always be tied to someone else’s big day rather than it’s own exciting event

Definitely you have to ask their permission first. I have one friend I would have loved to get engaged at my wedding but everyone else I would have said no. Get your own day.

Are there to celebrate THEM. I guarantee even if your friend say it’s OK they would prefer you not, and their family will look down on that as well

So so cute! Just pick your timing well! Obviously don’t do it at the ceremony but at the reception if the bride and groom know and are happy about it, why not? Wedding’s are about celebrating love, it’s a perfect place to propose :)
