Feeding issues 20 month old
My 20 month old has a history of speech/feeding issues. She nursed until she was about 9 months old then abruptly stopped and switched to formula after we ran out of pumped milk - we later learned she has a very thick lip tie that was affecting her latch. Apparently when I had a slight drop in supply she got frustrated because she couldn’t suck better.
She has had extensive therapies which was successful in helping her meet speech milestones and learn to chew (we had started off with baby led weaning - but she had been swallowing foods whole or sucking on them until they softened). We ended therapy about 2 months ago due to her progress, but now it seems she is progressively becoming more and more selective and fussy at mealtimes. Foods she will (usually) eat:
Applesauce
Yogurt
Puréed peas
Puréed sweet potato and squash
Puréed carrots
Puréed prunes and pears
Goldfish crackers
Teddy grahams
McDonalds hamburger
Turkey lunch meat (sometimes and only a certain brand)
Cheese (sometimes and only a certain kind)
Chicken breast (only this one kind that is precooked and frozen, then heated up)
Frozen waffle (sometimes)
And that’s about it. I’m so frustrated and worried - I never thought we’d have a picky eater. My husband and I eat a fresh and varied diet - I HATE that a lot of her staples are processed but we were desperate. She also still has bottles of milk mostly overnight (Nido enriched milk) to supplement her diet ... she wakes up hungry!
All this being said - she has no health or growth issues (probably due to the supplemental milk). There is definitely also a behavioral component. Sometimes if you even put something in front of her that she doesn’t want or recognize she will get really mad (screaming and crying).
Anyone have any advice or suggestions?
