My nipples have gotten darker

I haven't had sex in 2 months and I had my period last month. I noticed today that my left nipple was almost 3 shades darker brown and I have no idea why. My boyfriend sucked on them a little last night but not so hard as to bruise them... What could it be? I'm supposed to start my period tomorrow.
