VBAC labor and delivery

Allie

Labor started spontaneously at 3 am on my due date. When we got to labor and delivery I was dilated to a 4-5 and thin by 6:30. I account the quick progress to eating date fruit and being very active in walking and getting baby down into the pelvis beforehand. As I was a 2-3 the previous week. Labor ticked along, and when I hit transition 6-7 I asked for an epidural. I was tied to monitors and IV for being a vbac patient. My epidural hit a nerve and I had a shocking amount of pain travel down my right leg. It was horrid, but after 15 minuets I was able to calm down and the meds started to work. This was about 10:30. By noon I was hangry, by 3 I was finally complete. Thats when sh*** got real. My back and front side were in a lot of pain, and my epidural was weak. I pushed and pushed myself ragged for three hours. I agreed to a vacuum as I was wearing down quickly. Baby was big... after the head was out he got stuck. Total shoulder dystocia. I had three people jump onto the bed and grind fists into my low belly during contraction and I was screaming in pain uncontrollably. Doctor cut deep and put her hand in with baby and pulled him out, he was limp and purple. The room had filled with people and they got him breathing. I got to hold him for a minute before being wisked away to te nicu. 8 lbs 15 oz. I am 5 ft 3 and usually 125 lbs. He is doing OK now but has a broken collar bone and head swelling. I have a 3rd degree laceration and am bruised very much. Laying here without him is horrid. I got up at 2 am to go see him, and got to finally breastfeed. My Henry has our hearts. I hope he can be in our room tomorrow.

update:

Baby Henry is out of the woods and so darling! Hopefully we will be going home with him tomorrow and will be leaving the nicu.
