So my partner and I are eloping in Alaska next year. I want to elope and my partner wants his family to be there so we have decided to elope with just myself and my partner and then have a small family wedding whenever we get home.

His family are extremely controlling and opinionated. My partner doesn’t know how we should break the news to people that we have eloped.

We both know that his family are going to be extremely angry but they need to know that they are going to be apart of our wedding at home too! (We are from Ireland). Its going to be hard getting that point across that we ARE getting married at home too!

We compromised and agreed we would have BOTH weddings my partner and I are after.

Did anybody have any problem telling their family they have eloped?
