skin to skin helps you nurse better?

Is it true as soon as you give birth you are supposed to do skin to skin to help you be able to nurse? I was told this by someone, they said you can't even get the baby bathed or weighed. And that you have to do it for an hour.

I watched a video about this before I had my first at my prenatal class. You do skin to skin as soon as baby is born and the baby will naturally work it's way to breast. They say takes about an hour but could be shorter or longer.

If you don't get to do this you can still practice skin to skin at home or any time after birth. Just holding baby without clothes (both baby and you not wearing a top) before/after nursing helps. I personally found the hormones it released to take away stress, anxiety, and build a bond with my son but everyone is different.

My hospital wouldn’t bath baby for 24-48 hours because the vernix there covered in is supposed to soak into their skin apparently it’s good for them. But skin to skin has alot of benefits it’s always a good idea . There’s mother’s who aren’t able to do it right away and still nurse successfully and some who get it ASAP and can’t nurse it really depends on your milk production .

I did skin-to-skin with my almost-month-old, and he is ebf and going strong! 
I discussed it with my OB first, checked exactly what my hospital's process was for it, ect.. They immediately put him on my chest, and gave us an hour before they weighed him. it was 2 hours before he was bathed. 
and you don't really notice the time passing. That two hours was gone before we knew it. 
I can't say if *not* doing it made the difference for being unsuccessful in breastfeeding with my oldest, because there were outstanding health issues in the mix. 
But skin to skin is worth it, imho!

I wasn't able to hold or even see my baby for the first like 20 minutes (but my husband was by his side the whole time). Yes skin to skin is a way to help with milk supply, but also bonding and can be done at any time, not just immediately after birth. Sometimes you have to play it by ear depending on how your delivery goes and how the baby is doing
