Sorry for the newb question but what’s the difference between swaddling blankets, receiving blankets and muslins? 😬😬

Honestly, i think its just the material.... ik swaddling blankets are sorta stiffer than the other two... good question lol

Muslin blankets are breathable whereas most receiving blankets or other swaddles are not.

Not really sure about the Muslin blankets but I now the receiving blankets weren’t always big enough to fully wrap around my baby (and he was only 5lb6oz) without the end pooping out and to me that’s a SID risk so we got the Velcro swaddles which baby basically goes in almost like a sleeping bag and then the sides wrap around and Velcro. So much easier and never needed to worry about the blanket coming undone and there being any suffocation risks.

Receiving blankets can come in various shapes (rectangle or square usually) & sizes & sometimes are not large enough to swaddle. Swaddling blankets should theoretically be square & large enough to comfortably swaddle a newborn. Muslin is the type of fabric used (though it's not true muslin fabric, it's usually double walled gauze as muslin is a cheap cotton usually used by sewers for patterning/smocking).
