Swaddling, When to Stop, and How?

Ka

Hey All,

So my baby will be 12 weeks old Friday and just rolled over from tummy to belly today! It’s both exciting and terrifying because it makes me feel like I should stop swaddling him.

From what I have read once your baby can roll over - either from belly to back or back to belly- you have to stop swaddling to protect your baby from suffocation. Is this correct?

I get stopping swaddling once the baby can roll from back to belly- but why from belly to back? Is it because it’s possible he’ll start rolling from back to belly suddenly?

So I started researching how to wean him from the swaddle. His startle reflex is still REALLY strong. He can not sleep without the swaddle. The articles I’ve read say to swaddle with one arm out- but I am using a swaddle- me blanket. How do I swaddle with just one arm out using that? I saw videos on how to leave both arms out- but that does t solve my problem.

And if we are supposed to stop swaddling when the baby can roll- is the one arm swaddle even safe now?

This happened so suddenly I am not prepared!

This whole thing is confusing and triggers my anxiety. Any advice or wisdom would be greatly appreciated!
