What is your thought on baby food or led weaning...

I have heard alot of people doing this led weaning now but doctors and the WIC office have told me that it's very dangerous and they have heard of alot of babies choking and not making due to the parents skipping over baby food an letting the child learn to chew before giving solids

We did BLW starting at 6 months and have NEVER not once had a choking issue. BLW has actually protected my daughter from a choking incident when she got ahold of one of my earrings, because BLW teaches them to chew before they swallow she realized that it wasn’t good and spit it right out. Had we had done traditional weaning which teaches them to swallow before they chew she would have just swallowed it, which would have harmed her. 
Of course WIC will say it’s dangerous because they get funding from formula and baby food companies. But even the World Health Organization lists it as an appropriate form of weaning. Just do our research

Purees and baby foods are pointless. And the people at WIC aren't doctors so I wouldn't give their opinion the time of day. Our daughter never had any baby foods. We did baby led weaning starting at 6 months. Our daughter has never once choked but it's very important to take an infant CPR and first aid course so you're prepared in case something were to happen (this is a great class to take regardless of how you're feeding your child). Baby led weaning actually teaches your child how to eat. It teaches them how to pick up their own foods, how to use their jaws to chew it, how to feed themeless, etc. Purees don't do that.

BLW rocks. Never had a choking incident. Gagging here and there but that’s normal. It’s a good idea to know basic first aid no matter what you choose.

We do both I guess? But probably more in the baby led weaning direction. 
For us it just means we don’t do the typical puréed baby food. I’ve actually never bought “baby food”. I start with mashed up avocado or mashed squash or some other veggies. Then move onto bananas and yogurt, oatmeal etc. None of the foods I start with could be choked on. They’re either already more liquid foods or they’re so soft they melt in your mouth or are easily mashed. 
I made my own baby food with my oldest child and he is my pickiest eater by far. My BLW kids eat better and try more new things.

We do purees and I’m so glad we went that direction. BLW tends to just throw your child into foods and my son has an very serious oat allergy. If I had started off doing BLW it could have taken quite some time to figure out what it was.

I guess you could call what I did BLW. I believe I started around 5-6 months. whenever I would eat with a spoon or something my daughter would open her mouth so I took that as a sign. we started small with mashed potatoes, yogurt, etc. I then went on to by a food mill (made by munchkin) best decision I ever made! I could smash up literally any soft food for her she loved it! 
just remember to get the smoothest texture possible, not too thick, small bites and make sure baby has something to drink (preferably water)

I make my own purees, I’m too paranoid to do BLW because of choking.
