Is it normal ??

I’m 38 weeks today , and i have YET been checked by my doctor. She just feels with her hands on my lower stomach and “confirms” baby is head down . I thought they are supposed to be checking if I’m dilating, checking my cervix ? I Haven’t had an ultrasound since 20 weeks as well 😩

There’s no reason to do an ultrasound or check your cervix. Cervical dilation means nothing until you’re in labor.

If you are healthy and your pregnancy is going well there is no reason for your doctor to check you or do an ultrasound.

it's normal to not have another ultrasound after 20 weeks. some providers do a growth scan but they're so inaccurate it makes no sense. they can be off +/- 1 lb. my doctor checked my cervix at 38 weeks though so I am not sure on that. I would ask them to your next appointment.

doctors should check your cervix to see if it's going the way it should that's what I have had and I have had all normal pregnancies yes I typically need to be induced because my cervix don't like to progress like it should but that's just my body.

Every doctor is different but alot of places dont do ultrasounds after 20 weeks if everything is progressing as normal. And as for cervical checks with my first they started checking at 36 weeks and checked every week. Currently pregnant with my second and going to a different doctors office and she said they don't check at all until your in labor (unless they have reason to suspect something is wrong) because 1 it doesn't indicate when you will go into labor. You could be 3 cm for 3 weeks and 2 it increases the risk of introducing bacteria and infection.

It's very normal especially with a healthy pregnancy. MY doctor checked my cervix at 38 weeks and 4 days and I wasn't dilated or effaced but my water broke on its own 6 days later and I had him within 12 hours

With my first pregnancy, my dr started checking me around 34 weeks. But I didn’t get an US after 20 weeks. With this pregnancy I changed dr offices and I have gotten 6 US and I’ve been checked at 34 weeks and will be every week now. I guess all dr offices do it differently but I’m pretty glad I changed offices. I even have a girl obgyn and she’s so funny and cool. I love her! I’m sorry. U can request a referral from ur regular primary care dr for an outside US from any ultrasound place. And u just find a place that does US and schedule and apt and Ull get to see ur babes. Or u can pay out of pocket to see a 3D image US. I think it’s like 70$ and worth it! That’s what I did with my first.

Checking your cervix just risks introducing infection. Most drs don’t do an ultrasound after the anatomy scan, unless they think something is wrong.

with my first my doctor checked me for the first time at 37+4.  only because she was scheduling my induction for the next day due to high blood pressure and needed to know if my cervix was favorable to go straight to Pitocin or if I would need Cervidal first.  personally it is not a pleasant experience to be checked.  I would just hang tight and wait it out if you have no complications and no signs of labor knowing whether you are starting to dilate or not isn't going to impact when you have the baby and could give you false hope when it is possible to be dilated a few centimeters weeks before going in to active labor
