How long to try before IVF?!

How long should you actively true before consulting a Fertility Clinic? We’ve been trying for 19 months. I have endometriosis but still ovulate. Bet I’ve peed on a million sticks by now. He had a seamen analysis and his count is super low. We’ve also tried pre-seed and men’s Fertil-Aid. This isn’t a “we’ve done it all and we’re hopeless” post. This is a “Curious what those in the same situation have done” post :)

There’s point in waiting and worrying. Just talk to a doctor. It will either ease your mind, and you can keep trying naturally, or they can treat you.

It depends on the issue.  Have you had a lap done for the endo?  While you ovulate ovaries could have scar tissue causing egg quality problems.  Or scar tissue can be present in uterus making implantation hard. First time in our twenties we TTC for 2 years before doing IVF,  sperm was fine,  I have always had egg issues.  Did a ton of medicated cycles with no results.  Now in my late thirties and failure to get pregnant without protection we did a full year of charting,  medicated cycles and moved to IvF. We knew we probably do IVF again as nothing worked in our twenties so why would it in my late thirties?

This sounds a little similar to our story. I had my first baby and got pregnant within 4 months of trying. I never thought I would end up where I am today (6 months pregnant with baby #2). We had tried for close to 18-19 months before going through ivf. I had done all the tests leading up to ivf and went through two failed iui’s.  All of my tests came up with zero problem. My husbands SA came up with half the amount they typically like to see when doing an IUI. He did fertility-aid pills as well and it didn’t help increase his count. I emotionally couldn’t go through another failed IUI or month of trying. A friend of mine who struggled with infertility for four years told me that she learned “you need to take control” (or as much as you can) when making decisions in your fertility. I had HAD enough and we happened to be blessed my husband’s insurance had some coverage for the ivf process. It wasn’t an easy journey and sometimes I find myself lately thinking (could be the hormones) maybe I should have waited or tried longer.   When I think this way...I have to remember where i was when I originally made the decision. When we started the ivf prototcol- there were two months before and after the retrieval we knew we couldn’t get pregnant and it was such a blessing not to have to try and to be able to enjoy a drink or two here and they. I am wishing and praying for pregnancy success soon!

We’ve just committed to cycle one after a year of trying, but I’ve got low AMH so every doctor we went to used the words “time is of the essence”... but I have to say, for me, it’s been so nice to commit to a course of action and stop agonising over it. When you do decide, you can look forward to freeing up a bit of headspace!

19 months is a long time... seek help from your OBGYN first.  They can run tests to see if there's something more wrong and refer you to a specialist.
