Is it possible to react differently to your birth control (nuvaring) after taking a break?

TLDR; I stopped using nuvaring for three months after using it for a over a year. I had adverse mental side effcts that eventually went away, and haven’t had any other problems until returning to it after my three month period off. Since restarting I have been consistenly breaking out and have no idea how to address or solve the situation. What should I do?
**context** I'd been using the nuvaring for almost two years before I took a break from it for three month period. While on it I never experienced any bad PHYSICAL side effects. Emotionally I was in a deep depression and it had felt different than my "normal depression." I told my doctor who said my body was adjusting, that if it persists or worsens in three months, then to let her know and stop. She seemed to be right as I felt no more "extra depression" three months after first starting nuvaring, and eventually overcame my normal chronic depression (unrelated to nuvaring).
I take the nuvaring as opposed to the pill because I always forgot to take the pill and more importantly because it enables me to have a period. I have PCOS and according to my doctor only the pill and the nuvaring would allow me periods. I took a break from the ring three months ago because I forgot to renew my prescription and was in funk, I kept putting it off until recently. During those months I did not have my period.
I started using the nuvaring again about three weeks ago, so this week is my ring out week. Since starting the ring again, my skin is breaking out ALL around my mouth and chin. I haven't had this much acne, let alone, this persistent since my third year of high school, which was almost three years ago. I use the same face regimen that cleared it up those years ago and have used it consistently since then. I never broke out but got the occasional pimple during my period but never BROKE OUT. I’m embarrassed and sad about it because it's not clearing up at all and it happened suddenly. My face regimen was the only thing that has ever worked for me and now it feels like it is doing nothing. I eat healthily, drink plenty of water and exercise regularly as well.
Should I wait around three months to see if my body adjusts? Speak to the acne specialist who gave me the regimen that initially cleared my skin? Could there be a totally different underlying cause? What should I do?
