Period 3 weeks postpartum?

Question

So all week I've been having yellow lochia and all day I've been feeling period cramps (just assumed my uterus was still contracting back down) and I had yellow lochia all day up until now I have bright red blood, a little less than the amount I usually have during my period.
Is it possible that my period is already started back or should I go to the doctor??

After I had my son my bleeding was off and on for the full 6 weeks. I even got the yellow between the bleeding times. My MFM said that it is not considered a period until AFTER the 6 week mark. Up until 6 weeks it’s just considered postpartum bleeding. Some doctors may have a different policy on that but that’s what all of my docs have said.

Answer

Always talk to a medical professional BUT I did go to my doctor with the same symptoms and i started (and still am at 4w) bleeding red again because I’m pushing my body too far. The uterus is still sensitive and shrinking so bright red might mean you need to rest a bit more. Easier said than done of course!
