Am I crazy or do all the little things add up?

Question

I was so worried about my big items I didn’t pay much attention to the little stuff.
Ie: nursing (burp cloths, bibs, caps, etc), bath/health/care (humidifier, creams, lotions, soaps, ointments, bulbs, clippers, medicines, towels, etc), crib mattress, bedding & etc.
So far my diaper/health/etc that’s still needed is totalling $330 ish dollars. Nursing and feeding approx $200. Safety $276 (but that does include a dock a tot which I understand is a luxury item). Mattress, etc is totaling $316. And $136 for remaining clothing needed (pants, mittens, socks, a sweater/hoodie, sleep sacks & sun hat, those types of things).
Did I just pick super expensive brands or is it normal for all of this type of stuff to equal up to a grand?!?! 😂
First time mom, so I’d really like to know what others are spending for these items.

It deff adds up , decorating the nursery and buying everything for the first year , big and little stuff . We spent 11k on everything . But we got high end brands . All the 4 mom products and we bought everything for the first year !

Yeah my hubby and I have been shopping sales as much as we can and the total is still over $5,000.... having said that, we have boughten a lot of “non-essentials” such as a bottle warmer, wipe warmer, sterilizer, two baby carriers, etc... as well as more expensive brands/items. 
But adding up the cost of everything has me like 😨

Yep it sure does. I start buying as soon as I find out I'm pregnant. Every time I go shopping I pick up one or two small items so it's not such a bit hit all at once. My SO thinks he funds all our babies needs because he pays for the big ticket items, he has noooo idea how much all the little stuff adds up to!

Yep it sure does. I’m reusing a lot of things from my first, I was gifted a new bed, mattress, dresser and stroller and I’ve still managed to spend at least a grand. I haven’t paid full price for one thing either. Don’t even get me started on the several hundred we’ve spent on our diaper/wipe stockpile. I thought I was done and realized I technically haven’t purchased any decor for the nursery. Babies don’t need a lot, but when you buy all the things you’d like for convenience it definitely adds up.

It’s always the little stuff. Have you had your baby shower yet? If not it was a HUGE help having a diaper raffle at mine. I got diapers that are gonna last awhile

The little stuff definitely adds up to just as much or even more than the big stuff! I had certain things picked out in the very beginning and kept an eye out for them on Facebook marketplace Or Craigslist. I picked out a very specific swing but it was over $200, ended up finding it on Facebook brand new for $50! So doing stuff like that definitely helped out with some of the medium priced items. Also, I made an amazon registry. And bought a TON of stuff with the 15% off coupon they give you 60 days before your due date! So I got things like crib sheets, changing table pad covers, my diaper bag, a couple wipe containers, etc etc for 15% off!

The little stuff does add up, but you will come home with some stuff from the hospital that’ll help with a medical kit. We ended up with a nose suction bulb, nail clippers, and lotion (which we didn’t use). You can buy ‘gift sets’ of bath products that are usually a little cheaper than buying individual. We got a set of lotion and soap from honest company for cheaper than their individual products. Also make sure you register at Target, Walmart, Amazon, and any other stores in your area with registries because almost all of them have a free gift for you when you register, you just have to go pick it up.
Depending on when you’re due, hats may not be necessary. If you’re nursing exclusively you can just use burp cloths instead of that and bibs. We didn’t use any bibs until LO started eating real food. Gloves are unnecessary, baby socks stay on their hands better and it’s one less tiny set of stuff you have to find and match while doing laundry. 
There are a lot of little things that you do actually need, but most can wait a while. At least a few months. There are also things that people will tell you you need (bottle warmer, bottle sterilizer, wipe warmer, etc.) that aren’t necessary. Boiling water to sterilize bottles is easy, or get the MAM ones that you can sterilize in the microwave. If you’re nursing you won’t necessarily need a bottle warmer and if you do need to heat a bottle run it under warm water or put it in a pot of hot water on the stove. And wipe warmers are great at home until you have to change your LOs butt out of the house with cold wipe and the absolutely lose their sh*t because they’re used to warm wipes, so it’s easier to just use a wipe container and get them used to the normal temp.
