gestational diabetes.. help?

so I failed my 1 hour glucose test, have to go for the 3 hour next week.. if I fail that.. what does that mean? what exactly is going to change does anyone know / have experience. do I have to take insulin... etc? I'm worried. I know lot of people fail the one hour and pass the 3 but in just worried overall. I know it can pose a risk for the baby. any insight would be great..

it's usually diet control and checking your sugar 4 times a day. If you are unable to control it woth diet, they usually have you take oral meds. Insulin is the last plan of treatment, thats if diet, exercise and pills don't work. I was diagnosed at 18 weeks, am 28 weeks now. Mine has been very easily diet controlled, with a few splurges that haven't really affected my #s much. It's also allowed me to manage my weight very well during pregnancy. I have lost 20 pounds at my 28 weeks visit. Doctor is ok with it, it's because of all the healthy eating.

I’m a ftm and currently 27 weeks but was diagnosed at 12 weeks. My doctor told me about a diet to help get my sugars under control and I started seeing her every two weeks and had to keep a weekly log of what I ate, when, and what my numbers were two hours after eating. I also have to write my fasting number (number first thing in the morning with nothing in my belly) and if I snacked or exercised. I check my blood by pricking my finger four times a day (fasting, breakfast, lunch, dinner). It hasn’t been too hard to adjust to a low carb and low sugar diet. I am on insulin only because my fasting numbers kept hanging around or above 95. Fasting numbers should be at or below 95 and numbers after eating a meal should be at or below 120. I’ve gotten used to the shot, too. My baby is so healthy and because of my diet only average in size rather than big, which is the usual for gestational diabetes. I’ve also lost 10 lbs and have been able to maintain that so there are perks, too ☺️ it’s so common and there are so many recipes out there to help!!

I failed my 1 hour glucose by like12 points. I was terrified to go in for my 3 hours. I read up on it and there is nothing we can do to alter or do to change the results of the tests. I ate whatever I wanted the night before. Stopped eating at the 8- hour before the test mark. (Fasting and such). I went in took the test and figured I wouldn’t get the results til Friday. I got an email 5 hours later and bam, passed the test with flying colors :))

Checking sugars, monitoring carbs and more exercise. In a weird way I’m glad because it’s really kept my eating in check, and I’m more motivated to get the exercise in I should be. My weight gain has been minimal and I definitely feel better watching my carbs. Its all what you make of it, it wouldnt be your fault.

I don’t know what gestational diabetes is like, but I have Type 1 Diabetes. I’ve had it for 17 years. And I’m pregnant with baby #2. It’s something to take seriously for sure, but if you manage well, everything will be just fine. My son was born at 38 weeks and weighed 6 lbs 9 oz. He had no issues at all, was perfectly healthy! I take insulin but I’m not sure if gestational diabetics start on insulin or if that’s something they use only when needed. But just know everything will be okay regardless!
