Cost of IVF?

Question

Hi all. My DH and I have been trying to conceive for 2 years. After fertility testing, it was found that my husband has severely low speed count, around 2 million. He has 4 varicoceles repairs with no luck increasing his count, everything else is normal. We have decided to try a round of 
IVF
 as the doctors say that is our only option. For those of you that have gone thru 
IVF
 and insurance did not cover, what was your total cost? I’m nervous about the financial aspect of it. Thanks !

My husband also has a low count which meant we had to do IVF w/ICSI which adds to the expense. Our first round with everything included (meds, monitoring, procedures) ended up being $21,750. Unfortunately it did not end in a pregnancy so that cost is not added in. 
Check to see if your clinic does any kind of guarantee program. We ended up losing all 9 of our embryos on day 6 when they were supposed to be frozen. If you paid a higher fee (basically pay for 2 rounds of IVF upfront you’d get a chance for up to 3 rounds to become pregnant). If you got pregnant the first round you basically overpaid, the second round you broke even and the third round you underpaid. My husband was kicking ourselves for not taking the program deal...we just paid for one round. When we had the “sorry it failed” consult with the doctor he told us we had a less than 1% chance of becoming biological parents and that if we had read the fine print the doctor could have pulled us out of the program at any time. He pulled that 1% number out of his ass and was a crook. 
Our new clinic (which basically told us they get a ton of his “no hope” cases) has a similar guarantee program but it’s a baby home from the hospital. We paid $27,500 for this program and we get 6 chances (3 fresh, 3 frozen cycles)...that’s just the procedure cost and doesn’t include meds/monitoring. They told us they can’t yank us from this program unless I violate the rules...like if I suddenly picked up a major drug habit.

I read somewhere that if you work at Starbucks for X amount of months you can get their insurance and it will pay for you to get IVF procedure(s) dome. I’ve never worked for Starbucks so I don’t know all the details but it’s worth you looking up if your interested!

Great question. 
We may have to go the IVF route too and I wondered about the cost. 
Im really worried abt if I have to have fibroid surgery first. Or preserve eggs, then fibroid surgery, then IVF. 
So stressful and sad.

I’m in Colorado with no coverage either. A tad under $20k for IVF and the meds were another $8k. So $28k...I did need an unexpected surgery to my uterus which put us at about $34k. However, to be at a renowned clinic with the highest success rate in the country, it was worth it to only have to do everything once!

Look at CNY fertility in New York. Their IVF cycle is $3900 and they help anyone. Even with travel, is way cheaper than most places

We aren’t done yet (in the middle of a FET cycle that will likely be cancelled) and have spent about 20k so far, it was 8,500 for the ivf cycle, 3,700 for the FET, nearly 5,500 for meds, then there were other costs like the diagnostic testing etc. that weren’t covered.  We did NOT test our embryos given our age and that we only have 3 of them.  If we did that would have been another cost.  Best of luck!
