I'm engaged!! Now what?

Question

For now I have three questions: How long does it take to plan a wedding, and what's a gift registry/how does it work?
Oh also what actually needs planning? Obv you need flowers, invitations, cake, etc,but what are some things I need that don't immediately come to mind when one thinks 'wedding'?

We started planning a year in advance. I took a "to do" list from the Knot or one of those wedding websites and deleted/added to it to make my personal to do list with my own due dates. The amount of planning depends on how big/involved you want your wedding to be.
