I’m American, my husband is English.

Is it common in the U.K. for family to invite themselves over and stay for a month or two at a time?

I told him his family couldn’t stay with us when we I gave birth but they were welcome to come for a maximum of two weeks at a time once we get settled with the baby and his dad is acting like we disowned him. They can be there for the birth they just can’t stay with us.

My parents are coming for less than a week when the baby comes.

His parents also keep trying to invite themselves over to my parents house for Thanksgiving. In America its really rude to invite yourself to another families holiday gathering.

Are these things normal in the U.K.?
