"Hide" Notifications Errors

I go through and manually select "hide" on each notification (there should be some kind of "hide/dismiss all" option btw because the location you have to click changes based on how long the notification title is), and when I go back to the main forum screen the bell icon still shows 20+ notifications in its red bubble, even after closing and restarting the app. What's more, I go through the effort of hiding all these darn notifications that I don't even want (in most cases), and then the next day they're back! I will suddenly have all the notification from 3-4 days ago back in my notification history when I log back in the next morning- why?!
