I love you?

This guy and I told each other that we love one another many times. Yesterday at the cinema I was on his lap and he mumbled something. I couldn’t hear and when he repeated it I heard him say I love you, so I obviously said I love you too. Turns out he was asking me if I was okay. That was the most awkward situation of my life and I cannot stop thinking about it.
