Cosplaying without seeing it??

Question

I've been a cosplayer for years and I run into this debate a lot, so what do you think? Is it alright to cosplay from a show/game/movie that you have never seen/played???

Idk.. why would you? Personally I think you should like the character and know it well since you’re in that character so how can you do that if you haven’t seen it in action yourself?

I wouldn’t do it because then you don’t know how the character acts or talks or anything and I just think it’s a bad idea purely for that matter

I’d say depends only because if you’re bad at PVP or Arena style games so you don’t play but still like, say, League of Legends for example, I’m not going to say you can’t cosplay from it.
Now seen, if you’ve never seen/read any of Harry Potter I’d say no but if you’ve watched avengers movies before and you’re cosplaying Thanos without actually seeing the movie, it’s fine. It depends how you define not seeing it and/or how literally you take it.
