Is not talking still the norm?

My son will randomly say some words. He’s not consistent yet.

My daughter is 21 months and she can say some words clearly but when she goes full on with a conversation it just sounds like a bunch of babbling lol it’s pretty cute😂💕 but she does understand when I ask her something or tell her to do something. I guess as long as they can understand they will eventually just start talking

My son doesn't have very many words. Maybe 12, and he only uses about 6 of them regularly. I talked to his pediatrician, and ultimately she is not that concerned because he obviously understands a lot of what I say. She said he will probably be one of the kids that start talking all at once, and that there is a wide range of what is normal at this point. However, she did recommend me for a class on communicating with kids with a mild/moderate delay to make me feel better.

My son has 5 words but he's not consistent in using them, some days it's a lot and some days not at all. At his 18 month check-up his doctor referred him to be evaluated for speech therapy, I think it's a bit of an overreaction but I'm keeping an open mind and seeing what happens at the evaluation next week.

I think so. My son just started talking/vocalizing often in the past month. For us, I think it was constant ear infections affecting his hearing, and from 14-18 months (when I think some start to talk a lot) he was in a daycare that I soon realized was basically just keeping them alive and nothing else. He’s now in a place that is a dream come true and he’s made so many mental leaps in the past month. At our 15 month appt his pediatrician said his language development was just fine.
