My first appointment was yesterday and my doctor says gaining more than 10 pounds is excessive. He said there is no need to gain more than 15 pounds total through the whole 9 months. Just curious what other women have gained.

The amount of healthy weight gain is dependent on your pre-pregnancy weight. For women with a healthy BMI the recommendation is 25-35 pounds. Underweight women should gain more,  overweight women should gain less and obese women should gain even less.

I couldn’t really answer the poll fully because it wasn’t an answer but I gained 14.5 lbs. I think that it’s ridiculous that doctors make pregnant woman feel bad for gaining weight. I understand there’s definitely a point where it’s not healthy but seriously you’re going to gain weight! You’re growing a child in you. That child weighs something and so does all the fluid inside you. Yes some are just extra pounds from cravings and just pregnancy in general as your hormones are all over the place. I say screw any doctor who tells you that you shouldn’t really gain more than 10. Because i find that to be totally bullshit and such a stab at a pregnant woman.

I started at 105 pounds and was told I should gain 40 pounds. I gained 18 pounds through my pregnancy though.

i would get a new dr. that is crazy and outdated there is an extremely wide range of healthy weight gain. some people gained 10lbs or less and are perfectly healthy. i gained almost 50 with my first even though i was active and ate relativley healthy, my dr wasnt concerned because myself and my baby were healthy and i lost all the weight within 6.months. i look for a new dr, he sounds like he has outdated info.

I was 145 at 5'8" so very slim but I gained 75 pounds my first pregnancy. I'm pregnant with #2 at 14 weeks and lost 5 pounds so far

Unless you were obese pre-pregnancy, your doctor is wrong. The amount of weight that is considered healthy to gain is dependent on your starting weight/BMI

And to answer your question, my first pregnancy I was a healthy weight to begin with and I gained 40lbs (1lb/week all the way through) 
My current pregnancy, I started a little heavier but still a healthy weight. I’m 24 weeks pregnant and I initially lost 10lbs then gained 10lbs so I’m back where I started.

I gained 40. Ten of those pounds were in the last two weeks of pregnancy. I left the hospital after a week twenty pounds lighter. I’m now 8 weeks postpartum and 4 pounds from my original weight. Everyone gains differently.

first of all i pressed ten but i meant 20because i was counting in kilos not pounds(here in greece we use kilos).second i am a heavy woman and my doc said that usually heavy women do not gain much.he is worried more about the skiny ones if they gain wait because it's hard for their body to tolerate.so i wouldn,t worry so much about it unless it's causing you health problems
