TRIGGER WARNING ⚠ PEDOPHILE WHOSE CRIME CAUSED 2 POLICE OFFICERS TO SEEK COUNSELLING SENTENCED TO 5 YEARS

so my hometown isn't all that big or at least wasn't when I was growing up. now there's 1000's of houses being built and it's expanding. but that's not what this is about.

I debated heavily whether or not I should screenshot the article in question because whilst they chose not to go into graphic detail it's still shocking and sickening and some of the information I didn't feel was necessary to share because of how upsetting it is.

so understandably I've chosen not to add screenshots but I am willing to give names of articles etc to anyone who chooses to read the full story. instead I've taken some key points from the story so that you have some idea.

Police investigating a paedophile had to attend counselling sessions after viewing his horrific collection of abuse images.

Jameson, 70, horded abhorrent pictures and videos relating to the torture of babies and children. The financial advisor's collection was so grotesque that two investigating officers sought professional help to overcome what they had seen.

This morning (Thursday, July 19), Jameson came before Crown Court to be sentenced for his disgusting crime. Jameson had gathered 1,802 Category A indecent images of children, the most serious category of offending, including videos.

Defending, Mr Purves said the defendant was unaware of the criminal nature of viewing extreme images of children.

He stated that his client was "deeply ashamed" by his actions and to find himself in the dock. "There is no defence or explanation. No getting away from the fact that the vast majority of the images are absolutely abhorrent.”

“These were images that he found really quite readily.

“Because he persuaded himself that they were there for anyone to find, he considered he was not doing anybody any harm because the images were already out there for people to view whether he looked at it or not."

Mr Purves added that his client thought at the time that his behaviour was "naughty rather than seriously criminal".

Judge Lynch condemned Jameson’s actions before sentencing him to five years in prison.

“What makes these offences so serious is that the children, the real live children that are being filmed do not live in a fantasy world,” she said.

"They endure the pain and the suffering and the disgust and the abhorrence.

“Children and babies who cannot defend themselves. For them, when the filmer says ‘cut’ and stops filming, they do not turn to each other and say, ‘That was a good day wasn’t it?’.

“It is not fantasy, it is real life. The reason you are a danger to children is that every time depraved fantasists and paedophiles like yourself switch on your computer, you increase demand and where there is demand, it is answered.

“You should be deeply ashamed because but for people like yourself, there would be no call for this. Helpless children would not be filmed doing the most dreadful things.

“You should take your shame for facilitating this dreadful crime to your grave.”

the thing is, this is at least the 6th story in recent months about a pedophile arrested in that town. but what's most shocking is despite the nature of the crime, the severity and the fact that police officers have had to receive counselling he recieved just 5 years and in the UK we have the system of "Sentences of over 2 years. Offenders who are sentenced to two years or more will serve half their sentence in prison and serve the rest of the sentence in the community on licence" which means that in 2.5 years he's eligible to be released.

so why are crimes against children not being recognised and punished? why are these pedophiles getting such light sentences?

the defence made it out to be nothing, brushed it off as if the defendenat Jameson wasn't aware it was a crime, do you think thats the general outlook on pedophilia in law and why sentences are so lenient?
