Yes. I think what changed mine (I first registered as a Republican because that’s what my family is) was when the Santa Barbara shooting happened, and then the #yesallwomen hashtag started trending on twitter and other places on the internet. I was 19, and I had just completed my first year of college and I was in a sorority. It broke my heart to hear about sorority women being killed just because the shooter wanted to sleep with them and they said no. And then it made me angry to see other guys defending him, saying “well maybe someone should have just had sex with him!!!” That was the moment that made me say “okay, I’m a feminist.” And then I started researching feminism and saw that true feminists fight for all women and men too. They recognize that sexual assault happens to men as well, and they are positive about stay at home dads and single dads. I think becoming a feminist and college opening my mind really changed my political views. Who knows, I might become more conservative as I go into middle age, but I think even if I do, I’d be more of a centrist.
