College Tips?

Question

I start college on August 20th, I’m a freshman and I want to know what do I take with me in my backpack? Tips on studying? How to stay awake in class? Anything will help! Also, I won’t be staying on campus I’ll be commuting. I have my schedule already I take classes on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday and the earliest class I have is at 9:30.

In your backpack always have things to write with, notepaper, your textbooks for that class, the PowerPoint slides if your prof provides them in advance, highlighters and a few colours of pens or pencils. Also water and a small snack.
Studying I recommend writing notes by hand, it’s tiring but it helps me concentrate more than a computer and it really gets in your brain that way. Always read the chapter you will be covering before class so you can understand what the prof is talking about. Cue cards are a great way to help yourself study. Try to focus on the things you don’t know instead of the things you do know and understand (might seem obvious but people like feeling comfortable and often keep going over the stuff they are good at). A study buddy with good work ethic is always helpful too. Lastly, I always found if there was a concept I was having trouble with taking a small physical activity break really helped, I would go back to it and magically understand after. 
To stay awake, don’t party, go to sleep in good time, sit near the front.

planner, notebooks, pens, pencils, binders, high lighters. they'll give you a syllabus and it'll say your textbook. wait till the first day to get them after lecture. you can either get it at cheggsbooks or at your bookstore.

I would always just take what I need for my classes that day. So notebooks and any textbooks for those classes. I always had a water bottle and a few snacks (depending on how long your day is). 
At first I would always take my laptop with me but I never used it during classes. Either most professors dont a low one to even be used in their class, or I just found it easier to hand write my notes. I would use it on my break between classes but I found it easier to just leave it home (and give more space in your bag, and it's not so heavy). I would just use the computers on campus to work on assignments since most things are done online now anyway.

I just take my notebooks, textbooks if I need it for class or if I plan on going to the library, a few pens and pencils, occasionally my laptop if I’m going to the library. Just like high school I guess plus snacks if you need it and water
To study, do all the assignments; Take time to do practice problems from the book; look for external resources like videos on youtube, khan academy, or websites of other institutions for practice problems; talk to tutors or teaching assistants; study with friends 
Staying awake in class? Make sure you’re at least some what tested before, if you have a professor who isn’t so interesting then it’s very easy to get bored or fall asleep. I still don’t know any tips for that
